COMPETITION UPDATE
Three finals in one day:
Surfs Up Boardrider Max Payne traveled on May Day up to Freshwater West beach in Pembrokeshire, for the Quiksilver Welsh Surf Championships.
He was defending his national title from last year, and decided this time to push himself further by entering three different age groups at Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16. Making the most of the excellent shoulder high surf conditions the organisers decided to try and complete the junior section of the comp all on Saturday, despite a full entry of 16 in each category, leading to an intense day of surfing.
Max won all six of his 20 minute heats on the way to qualifying for an unprecedented three finals. He then won the under 12 title, followed by second place in the under 14s, and as the sun started to set took second place in the 25 minute under 16 final too, just missing out to 16 year old Swansea star David Williams.
Max is proud to be both Welsh on his Mum's side and Cornish on his Dad's and will now travel on the 8th May with the Welsh National team to compete in Portugal at the 2010 European Junior Surf Championships.
